The annual meeting of non-profit organisations that promote traditional and local fruit cultivars in Europe took place on 27 and 28 October in Troyes, France. The event coincided with the 40th anniversary of its organiser, Les Croqueurs de pommes®.
Organisations from twelve European countries exhibited seven hundred varieties of heritage apples and pears from 5 to 8 October at Europom 2017 in the Czech Republic. Here are some of the countries’ contributions I witnessed.
We ran a compote workshop on Sunday to promote the utilisation of small apples and windfalls. Two posters explained how to turn food wasting behaviours into gourmet dessert making and a live demonstration enabled the audience to contribute and taste.
